Not really in the mood to write much, but since I’ve stained all of your ears over the last few years with my ridiculous devotion to Georgia football…..I feel like it’s my duty as a fan to say that I’m embarassed at how far the Bulldog football program has fallen.  Of course I still pull for them, and I’ll be at the rest of the home games this season, and I’ll buy season tix next year and every year after…..but I can’t believe how fucking bad that football team actually is. 

I don’t know if it’s the coaches, the players, the ridiculous notion that changing the color of your uniform might actually help, or the fact that the referees somehow feel that it’s their God given duty to hose the Dawgs every chance they get all because of a damn endzone celebration 2 years ago.  Can we all at least agree that UGA has “paid the piper” for that little 30 second display?  I can honestly say that I’ve never seen a team get crucified for 1 gametime decision so freaking badly in any sport….ever.

Oh well, I guess there are certain things that I’ve got to just learn to accept……….I just didn’t think that one of them would be a Georgia football team that might not even make a bowl game this season.

 OK, based on the choice of Mood Music, I am confident that you all realize that this isn’t Willo.  I’m just a guy that thinks he knows it all.  The other day I was encountered with two situations that, while completely separate, infuriated me the same.  Hopefully some of you out there feel the same, or maybe I am just a curmudgeonly prick and need to get a life.  You be the judge.

 Firstly, I hope that most of you are familiar with the recent rise of RedBox, not to be confused with RedTube.  For those that require an explanation, RedBox is a red machine, in the shape of a box, that rents DVDs for $1 per night. 

The user interface is a touch screen where you can browse the 50 or so new releases that are available.  You can also tap the movie that tickles your fancy and read a plot summary prior to making your decision.  You simply swipe a credit card, and the movie pops out.  Essentially, RedBox is a 4’ x 5’ kiosk that is putting thousands of 15,000 SF Blockbuster Video Warehouses out of business.  The best part, you can go online and reserve the movie you want.  Just swipe your card at the kiosk at your leisure, and you’re in business. 

 RedBox is simple.  That’s why it is spreading like H1N1.  There are even 3 of them in Aiken.

 Now, I swing by a RedBox to pick up the documentary “Tyson” the other day (aside: rent that movie tonight).  I had reserved the movie at home prior to my trip, as I knew my errands that day would lead me to my local RedBox, conveniently located at Harris Teeter.  I get there, and there is only one woman in line in front of me.  No problem.  Keep in mind, I have no idea how long she had been at that machine prior to my arrival on the scene, 30 seconds, an hour, who knows.  After about 3 minutes, I wonder what is taking so long.  I’m watching over her shoulder, and she is cruising through the 5 or six screens of selections, over and over.  At the 5 minute mark, I let out an audible sigh, but continue to watch her technique.  I caught her reading the plot summary of “The Butterfly Effect 3,” then she moves on.  Another minute later, she is reading the plot to “The Butterfly Effect 3.”  Holy shit lady, why the hell would you need to TWICE read the synopsis of the second straight-to-DVD sequel to a shitty Ashton Kutcher movie.  Here it is: “This movie blows and you’re a fucking moron if you rent it.” 

Well, next thing I know she reaches in her purse, withdraws her cell phone, and calls her buddy.  She then proceeds to read the plot summary to “The Butterfly Effect 3” to her over the phone.  Holy Christ, if I would have had a taser, she would have been a grease stain on the pavement.  Well, after about 8 minutes of burning calories over such a difficult decision, she opted to not get anything, and went walking off, giggling on her phone to her buddy.  8 minutes… for nothing!  RedBox is designed to take no more than 2 minutes.  Look at the 5 screens, make a choice, and gets to stepping.  Oh yeah, it took me 10 seconds to swipe my card and have my movie, as I’m not an asshole and reserved my movie before I came.

 I am hereby proposing a 2 minute RedBox rule.  Once you start scanning the movies and the kiosk, there is a timer displayed at the top of the screen.  Once your time is out, so’s your luck.  RedBox is all about efficiency, and some jackleg deciding whether to rent “Dude, Where’s my Car 4: The Lost Jetski” runs counter to the spirit of the company.

 Now, on to my other jag, and I will be brief.  I only listen to 2 things on the radio: Howard Stern and Colin Cowherd.  Well, the Herd sometimes likes to reach over into the business world during the show.  This deviation from the plot led Colin to discuss “niche markets.”  However, he pronounced the word “niche” as neesh.  I get it, “niche” has French roots, therefore he wanted to sound smart and cultured.  Twenty bucks that shithead wants to roll his tongue when he orders a burrito at Taco Bell, and although extremely lame, it is technically the right way to say it.  Even I’ve been known to say Mahareeta! after a few margaritas.  But the thing is, “niche” is correctly pronounced nitch.  Go to dictionary.com, look it up, and click the pronounce button.  You will hear nitch.  So, not only do you sound like a pretentious clown, but a stupid pretentious clown to boot.  When in doubt, stick with the Southern American accent with foreign words, as to avoid looking like a shitty junior college liberal arts professor.

Folks……I tried, I really did.  I read the back and forth comments on my post about Nickelback.  I was amused and tempted to comment myself….but I tried to let the audience speak for themselves.  Alas, 2 commentors (we’ll call them Becca and Amanda) have forced my hand.  Therefore, in honor of our 2 WOW guest commentors, I’m going to randomly (and by random, I mean, I’m going to pull up the Nickelback song catalogue, close my eyes and point) ….. randomly pick a Nickelback song every week, and show that no matter the song, the lyrics are atrocious.

But before I spin the bottle for this weeks’ juicy smack…..I’ve got a few things to say…..

I’m in agreement that everyone has a right to their opinion (hell, I’m one of the most opinionated people I know)…..so I think it’ healthy to take a stand for the things in life that make you happy.  Stand for what you believe in…..and one of the commentors recently has certainly done so…….and I was trying to give her the benefit of the doubt…..you know…….I mean, realistically, her all-time favorite band (Nickelback….and yes, I threw up a little in my mouth at that coupling)……was being bashed by a guy that ends his posts with a picture that has him sporting a sick mustache (who am I to condemn her favorite band?).  Wellllllllllllll, it’s what I like to do……….sorry Becca.

You had me right up until you mentioned the song,”If Today was Your Last Day”……..I mean, seriously, if today was really your last day, do you want to go down worshipping this guy?

Like I said, everyone’s tastes are subjective and that’s ok……and I was almost willing to go with your argument for rock n’ roll….you mentioned, AC/DC, The Beatles, Def Leppard (ok, I gave you a flier on this one), the Rolling Stones, CCR……..Absolutely, great rock n’ roll bands…..rocking til’ death……..but then your list looks like you decided to stop picking bands for their musical chops and started picking them based on bad haircuts…..my God…..

Today’s Topic:  What we’ve learned after 1 week of College Football

Anyone else ridiculously disappointed in the first week of College Football?  Holy shit what a letdown.  I mean, I know that you all are thinking that I’m just pissed because Georgia lost (and yes that’s part of it….more how, than anything else…but I’ll get to that), but surprisingly….although UGA is at the center of it all….there’s more than just that game that’s pissing me off about College Football already this year. 

What’s the deal with the effin’ personal fouls this season?  I mean……I can’t tell you how many legitimate hits (some freakin’ awesome…including 1 by safety Reshad Jones of UGA…but again, I’ll get to that) were flagged as personal fouls……and what was the call….unsportmanslike conduct…..knocking too much of the dogshit out of a receiver…….playing football?  I didn’t quite catch the explanations (partially because I was watching the UGA game at a bar and couldn’t hear shit…but again, later), but I noticed that they are now calling “horse collar” tackles this season……except I couldn’t quite figure out the definition of that because in the South Carolina/NC State game, a guy tackled a dude by grabbing him around the head….didn’t grab the collar….or facemask….but a flag was thrown nonetheless.  Again, if this bullshit continues, it won’t be long before flag football becomes the standard…not just intramural crap.  Come on NCAA…..please don’t fall prey to the same political crap that continues to plague our country…..what I like to call the “pussification” of America.  It’s fucking football…..if guys don’t want to get hit, tackled, grabbed by the fucking head, knocked the fuck out…..then go play Golf.  Seriously…..it’s like watching paint dry with the amount of flags that are thrown these days…..just not much fun.  And one last comment on this subject……..to the Boise State lineman that decided to talk shit after a win to the Oregon RB…..Dude….you deserved to get knocked out……and wipe that shit eating grin off your face.  Oh yeah, Kirk Herbstreit, stop being such a pussy.  Thank God for Desmond Howard or we’d all be listening to Herbstreit and Robert Smith shovel shit our way all season.  That guy deserved to get knocked out and the Oregon player DID NOT deserve to be suspended for the whole season.  PERIOD.

With their continued progress towards Global Domination…..how in the hell is it possible that ESPN hasn’t figured out what the term “regional” means?

I was sitting in Hendersonville, NC…..I repeat NORTH CAROLINA……as in a few hours north of GEORGIA…….as in A SOUTHERN STATE……as in NO WHERE FUCKING CLOSE TO MICHIGAN……and waiting for the damn Syracuse/Minnesota game to get out of Overtime……by the way, on a side note….I didn’t think it was even remotely possible….now that he’s switched to football (in Syracuse) that Greg Paulus could annoy me more than he did slapping the court at Duke…..but there he was…..on the TV screen Saturday……as I resorted to scanning the ticker for the Georgia score…..while ESPN decided that we’d rather watch the end of said game than cut over to one of the only games all weekend that matched up 2 top 25 teams.  I mean…..of course North Carolinians want to see the end of the Minnesota/Cuse’ game…..I was on pins and needles to see what would happen……For the Love of God ESPN….there’s got to be someone that’s paid enough to make a decision to go ahead and pull the plug on a game that is of NO EFFIN’ importance to anyone on Earth…including probably most of Minnesota and New York.  God.  So I waited….(and on the ticker I noticed that UGA scored 7 points in the first 5 minutes….great start…..wish I had seen it because that was about the only offensive highlight all day…more later) and finally….as if the Sporting Gods heard my silent desperation (only to completely bend me over a few minutes later)……Paulus threw a pick in OT and Minnesota kicked a FG to win.   Yes…..I only missed a few minutes of the UGA game and ESPN 2 is carrying either the UGA/OSU game or the Michigan/Western Michigan game depending on the region.  So any minute…..after 10 thousand crowd shots, a dumbass interview…..any minute….after discussion of Paulus’s first game since high school…..any minute…….they’ll switch to the………MICHIGAN/WESTERN MICHIGAN GAME???????  What the fuck?  How in the world does anyone with half a fucking brain think that Hendersonville, NC would be considered a region that should air that game over the Georgia/OSU game.  Seriously……..I was livid.   Beside myself.   This mega conglomerate of fast talking, bad tie wearing, bad hair wearing, bad analysis providing, Yankee and USC ass kissing…..pussies …..doesn’t have 1 person that knows that (regionally speaking) North Carolina is 2 states away from Georgia…..whereas…..it’s about…..shit I don’t know how many….but I could google a map and I’m gonna guess at least 5 states away from Michigan….ballpark.   Get your heads out of your asses you pieces of shit…..it’s bad enough that you get paid to provide bad analysis and dumbass one-liners….but the least you could do is not screw me out of watching (at least Regionally) the game I’d be more interested in.   God. 

and one more thing about ESPN that leads directly into my next point……and a way they can salvage a little respect for themselves in my eyes….please, please, please……start holding referees responsible for screwing up game after game after game because of ridiculously biased calls……please.  The only way this problem can be fixed (and I realize as I’m typing this, that there’s no point….because I’ve already proved that it’s futile to rely on ESPN to do anything logical) is if it starts to be analyzed by the idiots of said network……and the reason I said that was because of this:

Despite your inclination to think that it’s just my typical HATE OF REFEREES stemming from childhood church league basketball…..I’m completely fed up with the notion that teams should just “deal with” bad calls. 

If I have to hear another person say (and it’s usually someone that didn’t watch the game I’m talking about) that a team had plenty of opportunities to win a game, despite some bad calls, I’m going to knock them out……so, really, although I know some of you really, really love to push my buttons regarding Georgia….I’m giving you fair warning….so take my cue from the comment about the Boise State lineman and shut the eff’ up on this topic.  Bad Calls cost teams games.  Period.  I don’t care if it’s in the first minute or the final minute…….it CHANGES the outcome.  People that say (and this includes all the fucking geniuses at ESPN) that a team had plenty of chances to win…..have never played sports.  Never.  I’m gonna use the Georgia game as an example (shocker, I know).  The headlines for the Oklahoma State/Georgia game will read:

Dez Bryant and Oklahoma State too much for Georgia………or Cowboys lasso Bulldogs or…….you get the point.   Here’s what you don’t hear:

Oklahoma State had 10 points that they deserved.  A  40 yard TD catch by Bryant that was awesome and a field goal after UGA turned it over inside the 10 and held one of the most prolific offenses of the last few years to 3 and out.  The rest of the game I will attribute to biased refereeing and  the “pussification” of College Football. 

Now….before I continue…..understand that Georgia’s offense looked like shit after the first drive….and that didn’t help them…..but the Defense played tremendously and the Special Teams as well.  Enough to keep the game close and give them a chance to squeeze out a win despite the offensive woes……but 3 things happened that were out of their hands…..that gave the Cowboys 14 points and the win:

1) UGA had 2 substantial returns during the game that were called back because of “blocks in the back” that were what I like to call “phantom” penalties….meaning….the defender was already falling down and was out of the play….not a situation where a flag should be thrown…..while there were no flags thrown on Oklahoma State’s lone “Big” return despite 2 blatant blocks in the back.  Even after the no calls Georgia proceeded to:

2) Hold Oklahoma State on 4 and 2 from inside the 10 and were about to get the ball back down 3, but wait……..the officials decided to ”spot” the ball about 2 yards closer to the goal line than where the guy actually landed…..giving them the first down by about an inch.  Quite possibly the worst spot I’ve ever seen……..but even after that…..Ok. State is up 10……UGA gets a field goal and cuts it to 7 after a decent drive……they’ve got the momentum….and:

3) Reshad Jones knocks the ever living shit out of an Ok. State receiver……jarring the ball loose on a 2nd down pass…..giving the D a chance to stop the Cowboys and UGA would get the ball back with plenty of time to try and mount a drive….but wait……..personal foul on Reshad Jones for ….. hitting the guy too hard?  I’m not sure what the call was, but I know this……he didn’t lead with his helmet……he didn’t horse collar the guy……he didn’t grab the facemask, helmet, etc…….he didn’t hit him in the head………so what’s the fucking penalty!!!!!!!!?????????? 

Oklahoma State gets the ball inside the 20 and a few plays later, Bryant catches a pass and falls into the end zone……great game Bryant

One more side note for any of you that watched the game……….was it just me or did Dez Bryant look like the whiniest bitch you’ve ever seen?  You would’ve thought that Prince Miller pissed in his ear hole or something……he did not like being defended like that……and lost all of my respect.   The commentators are the first ones to praise him for his spectacular play….but say nothing in regard to him acting like a damn 6th grader when he couldn’t get the ball. 

Oh yeah….one more side note……if it’s “too hard of a hit” when the ball is actually there……why is the same flag not thrown when an OK. State player knocks the dogshit out of a UGA player after a tipped pass?   Ridiculous.

So, in review…….ESPN still sucks, even worse, College Football is well on it’s way to being played with “flags”…….and Referees are the only people in the world (other than Weather People) that can blatantly screw up an entire game and continue to cash a check.

“the man, the myth, the legend…..”   he’s closing in on Ed Sprague folks…anyone know who it is?

- I put Wofford in because, well, I wanted to.  I gave App. State a chance last year when they started the season going to LSU.  They blew it.  This year, it’s Wofford’s turn.  They go to South Florida and to Wisconsin.  Hell, if they win those 2, they deserve to be in my Top 25. 

- For those of you that think Ole Miss deserves to be in the Top Ten (or even simply ahead of Alabama, Georgia, or LSU)….think again.  You’ve got to earn it in my opinion.  That goes for Alabama as well.  You all probably think I’m a homer for putting Georgia ahead of Alabama when the AP and Coaches Polls both have them at #5.  Well, maybe it is a homer pick, but realistically, if you look at what Georgia returns, and how they finished last year compared to Bama…..I think it’s a justifiable ranking to put UGA ahead of them.  Not to mention, in my opinion, if it comes down to 2 teams that are close in my opinion, talent wise, then I’m going with the team that’s earned it.  One good season doesn’t make Alabama a Top 5 team and I ain’t just giving them the spot because Nick Saban coaches them….sorry.

- I tried to pick different games for the Games to Watch…..I believe the only game that I chose for both teams was the USC/Ohio State game because I think it’s a monumental game for both teams…..especially USC.  If they lose that game….watch out….it might be a down year for the Trojans…..as for Ohio State…and the National spotlight….it’s a must win for them to garner some respect….if they get blown out again, it’s going to be hard to put them in the Championship game even if they win out.

- Finally, I’ll be giving you a few games of the week around Wednesday or Thursday of each week this season…..so here’s a short list of games to keep an eye on as the season kicks off tomorrow:

Today’s Topic:  The North Carolina Public Interest Research Group (NCPIRG)

Folks.  I am sitting here in disbelief at an email I just received from a woman named Allison Cairo, a member of the NCPIRG (see above for title).  Now, at some point in my past, I did something to get on the list of this organization, which, without getting into too many details, basically solicits donations to try and help with public interests in the state of NC.  Not a bad thing, right?  I guess it depends on what they are trying to help.  Anyway, I receive occasional emails that get deleted immediately.  Honestly, I never even look at them, because to be perfectly frank, I don’t have time.

Well, today I decided to read the email.  Don’t ask me why….maybe I was feeling generous….or possibly wanted to actually see what the hell the NCPIRG had to say.  (In my mind, they solicited help for some environmental issues in the past….seemingly innocent). 

Man was I shocked to open up this gem.  And just so we are all on the same page…..and I’m not just paraphrasing this email…..I’m going to copy and paste it below…..so read and then I’ll continue:

Hi Will,

I just got a report from Laura Deehan, one of the organizers with our California affiliate, about a town hall meeting she attended with Rep. Pete Stark (D-CA). One attendee, she said, yelled at the top of her lungs that the representative wanted to “kill my grandma,” and she wouldn’t stop.

How are you supposed to have a debate with that going on?

In order to prevent the dissenters from taking over the room, Laura was able to coordinate the rest of the room to shush disruptors — and it worked.

Thanks to many of you, the tone of many congressional town hall meetings has improved.

There are just two weeks left and still 6 more town hall meetings in North Carolina, and if we want to make sure they don’t devolve into rowdy discussions about death panels, or yelling matches dominated by a few obstructionists, we need to get our organizers to as many meetings as possible.

If you can help us with a contribution of $35, we can put more organizers in more town halls to make sure the majority voice is heard.

This is critical because Congress returns to Washington in two weeks. That means we have just two weeks to make clear to our representatives that the majority wants health care reforms that will lower costs and lead to better care and better choices for all Americans.

Opponents may have grabbed headlines when August began, but because we’ve gotten the word out to people like you, we’ll end the summer recess with a strong message to legislators: We can’t wait for reform.

With just two weeks left, we need a strong finish that will send our representatives back to Washington ready to fight for us, ready to fight for health care reform.

First, Allison, I’m sorry that you think someone standing up and yelling that the healthcare reforms that are being proposed to the American people are “killing their Grandma” is ridiculous….but that’s what a DEBATE is!  You can’t just expect people to be civil when such a monumental personal reform is being discussed.  I understand that someone like that, if continuously disrupting the meeting, needs to be removed….but silencing from the start is not ok. 

****Let me be perfectly honest, I have not researched the entire healthcare reform policy that’s being trumpeted around the country right now…..so please understand that this post has nothing to do with whether or not I agree with the proposed healthcare reform….I just want to be clear on that. 

The purpose of this blog is to display my disgust for an organization that is openly soliciting money from people to silence citizens in an arena that they are openly willing to arrange. 

Town Hall Meetings are supposed to be just that (supposed to be, although I have a slight suspicion that the actual “guest list” is probably altered as often as possible to appease the speaker)  People are supposed to be able to voice their opinions to their representative….whether it’s a local rep., a state rep., or the President himself, it’s about the American people listening and voicing their concerns. 

Guys and Gals……I cannot tell you how effin’ mad this email made me.  Seriously.  Maybe I’m naive to the political current in today’s society……the internet propaganda, the mass phone calls, the ridiculously skewed media perspective (depending on the channel that’s on)…..but despite my naivety……I do know this…….

Fuck this hypocrisy!  I’m so damn sick of every fucking liberal that thinks they deserve everything that they want.  I guarantee you that Allison is the first person to stand up for our “Constitutional Rights” when it comes to a topic that interests her, yet she’s openly soliciting money to “silence” citizens of this country so that her “majority” can get their point across.  That is soooooooo far from what our Constitutional Rights dictate that it’s not even on the radar of dumb shit that people like Allison discuss.  Good God.

***dont’ get me wrong…..I know that staunch Right Wingers do the same kind of shit, it’s just that normally, they are at least consistent about the bullshit they are trying to convey……and if I’m wrong and the NCPIRG is a Republican based organization…..then…..I’m sorry…..but somehow I don’t think they are…. 

You know what I say to people like Allison…….Blow It Out Your Ass.   Seriously.  You dumbass piece of shit.  Don’t sit here and ask me to donate $35 so that you can get across the policies that you want just because you are paid to do it.  Do you honestly believe in what you are doing?  And since when was the majority always right?  Opinions are opinions, whether you think they are right are wrong….there is a need for them to be heard.  THAT IS WHAT OUR COUNTRY IS ABOUT!!!  I find it hard to believe that a fairly intelligent (maybe….don’t know her personally), seemingly successful (again don’t really know) woman can actually believe in an email like the one above.  Honestly….read it a couple of times and tell me that it doesn’t make your blood boil. 

I mean, even if the actual topic doesn’t bother you…..if you too get annoyed by people standing up and shouting whatever comes to their mind in a public forum…..there’s no way that you can believe it’s ok to pay money to shut them up.

So, sorry for the rant….but I want to hear from you all on this one.  Let people like Allison know what you think.  You can’t just talk about the fact that the “reforms” will lower costs just to get people to bite.  You need to discuss then entire spectrum……

Ok, Ok…..I’m crying uncle for those of you who have had the pleasure of hearing me defend Nickelback on the rare occasion that it has actually come up in a conversation.  (which I believe was once on the way to the beach???  or somewhere….and those arguing against them probably know who they are….we’ll call them Stan and Kristen.)

Now, back to Nickelback. 

I really gave them a chance.  I did.  From the opening lines of the first Nickelback song I heard (I’m guessing it was the first one we all heard)….“never made it as a wise man…..I couldn’t cut it as a poor man stealin’”…….Hi-Yo!!!!  How long did it take for those lyrics to jangle your nerves?  I’m guessing, not long, by the feverish devotion most people assume towards bashing the band.  And hey….it’s cool…..cause now I’m on your side.

There was a duet with Santana…..ok, well……can you really call that a duet?  Don’t vocals have to be involved?  And I’m not bashing Chad Kroeger’s vocals…yet….I’m saying Santana doesn’t sing.  At least, I don’t think so……they try and fool you by cutting to him mouthing the words every now and then in the video, but since he’s not mouthing the right lyrics, I’m guessing he ain’t singing.

So that one was ok, right?  What was it called……oh yeah, “ay oh ay oh ay oh ay…and we danced on into the niiiiiiighht” 

Not sure what was more annoying….that chorus or the damn repetitive guitar riff…yowsa.

Anyway, like I said before….I’ve given in to the throngs of Nickelback haters and have assumed the hating position….so for now…..I’ll leave you with (in my opinion, and I’m sure this varies greatly) the top 5 worst lyrics ever uttered by Chad Kroeger (who is the guy below with the curly blond hair for those that were wondering):

Oh, before I start, one more thing, and no offense to the guy, but good lord dude, change your effin’ haircut….even I can’t defend you for that.

God that’s atrocious.  Just really didn’t know how to finish that line did he?  I mean, we’ve all been there but missing’s not really a concern.

And I have to comment on the title because, well, why not……I never realized, probably because I don’t buy Nickelback albums, that they have so many ridiculously vulgar songs……it’s really thrown me a massive curve…..I mean, I went from thinking that they were quite possibly the worst lyricists of all-time (which still applies) to thinking that they also could have serious mental issues.  Who writes a song called “Something in Your Mouth”?   Not to mention, and after following the #5 worst lyric, how couldn’t you notice……he missed just trying to kiss a girl…..how in the hell’s he gonna get his…..oh never mind. 

And to the lyrics…..“Got to meet the hottie with the million dollar body, they say it’s over budget but you’d pay her just to touch it, COME ON”

COME ON is right.

3) From the song, “I’d come for you” …..God, I know, they are not only the worst lyricists, but also lack the ability to name an effing song….I mean, the lyrics are bad enough (and the singing, music, etc….I know) but for those that might be interested…don’t run them off before they actually even listen

and the lyrics…… “just one more moment, that’s all that’s needed, like wounded soldiers in need of feeling”

That’s just bad on every level. 

2) From the song, “This Afternoon”……I’m going to preface this choice by saying that all of you….seriously, all of you reading this…..need to google this song and read all of the lyrics, because I’m just flipping a coin on this one….that’s how bad the whole damn song is……I wrote, honestly, I wrote better lyrics than this in high school….and sadly…they were dealing with the same subject…….God….how old are these guys?

and, heads it is…….“we got weeds in the backyard four feet tall, Cheech and Chong probably would’ve smoked them all, so I’m on the couch this afternoon”

Can I just take this chance to say that I sincerely apologize for ever even thinking these guys might have been ok?  They are millionaires from this shit, folks.  If that doesn’t make you want to freakin’ vomit…….holy mother, then #1 surely will:

Today’s Topic:  Fridge Heaven, Grape Gatorade, and the disappearance of chicken littles

Folks.  I really wanted to share a photo with you all.  It’s something that you don’t see everyday…..and certainly not as a kid (unless you’re extremely lucky…or thirsty…which might not necessarily be a good thing…or if you’re a certain friend of mine and patron of fridge in said picture, we’ll call him Ed). 

You see, the picture below represents a kind of euphoria that exists only in childhood imagination…..a place so full of things that make you happy that it’s almost inevitably a mirage…..until you come across it and reach inside and grab a root beer….and you realize….oh yeah….it’s real…and A & W root beer is delicious.  Seriously, when’s the last time you actually had an A & W root beer? 

More on that later. 

I mean….there were times when I was younger that some friends and I would stay over at Ed’s and I believe I’d catch myself just going over to the fridge and opening it to make sure it was all still in there.  There was Gatorade (orange, lemon-lime, fruit punch, and Ed’s favorite…I believe…Citrus Cooler….I’m gonna admit….I wasn’t a big fan of the Citrus Cooler…and while on the subject….pardon me while I nix the parentheses to expound on this for a moment)….

why was it…and is it (because it’s still a problem that defies logic even in 2009 amidst “G” and whatever other concoctions of Gatorade that have quietly evolved into a full fridge section at your local Kwik Shop)…

that they don’t make a damn normal size bottle of GRAPE Gatorade?   My God.  It seems like a no brainer doesn’t it?  Kinda like the original recipe chicken sandwich at KFC (more later).  Anyone else love Grape Gatorade?  Anyone else found yourself not buying it because a) you’re not in the mood to have to screw off the sippy cap of a 20 oz bottle…that I believe is made for marathon runners so that they won’t spill any of it as they run (which is seemingly convenient, but utterly maddening for people like me who just want some damn Grape flavored “G” or as Mitch Hedberg used to say, “thirsty dudes” who aren’t concerned with spillage necessarily or running a marathon…or to the mailbox for that matter, but would prefer our Gatorade in 16, not 20 oz doses) or b) really not in the mood to buy a damn 32 oz drink because….well, that’s a list all its own but let’s just say as of 2009 there’s no drink holder, I know of,  built to fit the massive plastic bottom of a 32 oz Gatorade  and to be honest….32 oz of Gatorade is a shit ton of liquid…..I mean, it doesn’t hold a candle to the mind numbingly, thirst quenchingly, brain freezingly, seemingly cup breakingly huge 96 oz fountain drinks that ye ole’ Kangaroo used to sell (I believe those were called “bladder busters”? or something like that…someone please help me on that one)…but still….32 oz is like slamming 3 cokes…minus the carbonation, sugar, caffeine….ok, just in a purely quantitative comparison….they’re similar….it’s a lot of drink….just to get the damn Grape flavor is my point.

Where was I?  Oh, yeah….KFC chicken sandwiches……another thing that always blew me away (apart from the now 2 decade disappearance of the chicken little…which will hold its spot in history as possibly the greatest tasting sandwich for it’s size ever made….why they never came back still baffles me….I mean, McDonalds can break out the McRib once a year….come on KFC…get with the program.  It’s a small amount of breaded chicken….and it’s delicious. )  was why KFC never (until recently I believe) took it upon themselves to make a chicken sandwich that was ……..wait for it……….fried with the original recipe that they use for the chicken.  God it seems so simple doesn’t it?  And it’s got to be good….I mean, the whole damn world loves the flavor of original recipe fried chicken from KFC…..and if you’re shaking your head….you’re just lying to yourself.  Don’t get me wrong….I’ve had mashed potatoes from Kentucky Fried Chicken that tasted like poison……seriously…..I really haven’t been back to be honest…..my taste buds were shot for weeks.  It was like getting really scared in the house by yourself at night….you know when you just fucking jump and there’s literally not a soul around you.  It takes a while to get back in that situation without wanting to cut on the lights or run at top speed down the hall.  Now multiply that consternation by 10 and you’ve got my fear of KFC mashed potatoes.  Even still, there’s nothing like their fried chicken….and one day….once the bullshit craze of “grilled” chicken from KFC passes over….come on people…..we don’t go to KFC to eat healthy…..screw the damn grilled chicken…who are you trying to fool? 

One Day…..when I have children of my own……and a fully stocked fridge….not nearly as beautiful as the Murphy’s fridge that’s pictured above (which is a recent shot by the way….for those that were wondering…it’s been like 20 years and that baby’s still stocked…and I would personally like to thank the Murphys for ounces upon ounces of liquid delight….granted…there are a few more “diet” beverages these days…but hey….who’s checking)

One Day….I will grab a 16 oz GRAPE Gatorade from my fridge….place it in the drink holder of my car as I wheel the kids off to get some chicken littles from KFC and despite the fact that I’ve been poisoned in the past….I’m gonna order a large side of mashed potatoes….ok, maybe not that, but a side order of Popcorn chicken…….and flip off McDonalds as I drive by staring at the “for a limited time only….the McRib is Back!!!” banner hanging from the window.

A man can dream.

First…..and despite its surrealistic nature….I’m offering a SPOILER WARNING to those of you that have DVRed, TIVOed, etc……this week’s episode of the Bachelorette.  Because, odds are, I’ll never get to do it again, I will repeat…..there’s a SPOILER WARNING for all of you Bachelor”ette” fans out there that haven’t seen this week’s episode. 

And finally, for those that can’t get the hint (despite my manual attempt at ALL CAPS) or for those of you that have no idea what a SPOILER WARNING is….I am going to be talking about the most recent episode of ABC’s “the Bachelorette” in this blog. 

I believe that’s fair warning……eh?

Let’s get one thing straight.  No one (including good guy Jason from last season for those that watch….at least until the “after the final rose” show…..) can possibly, actually, really, seriously….believe that they are going to fall in love on this show…..can they?  Come onnnnnnn people.  Tell me you’re not all that stupid.  Please.  Tell me.

Jillian… something or other (I have no idea what her last name is….which doesn’t bode well for her future after this show’s over…we’ll get into that later) seems like your prototypical sweet, loveable, down to earth, lick lipping Canadian that’s just yearning for a guy that can be her best friend, make her laugh, be willing to move to Canada on a whim, zipline (cause for the love of God that’s part of every other date), and love her the way she deserves to be loved (which, upon recent viewing, doesn’t include sex).  Huh.

Now….don’t get me wrong…..I’m all about the possibility of finding your future partner based on random helicopter rides, ropes course dates, snow shoeing, helicopter rides, the occasional Martina McBride serenade, maybe some horseback riding (wait, not this season…oh), helicopter rides (this time accompanied by “The Bachelor”’s theme song), repelling down the side of a high-rise, helicopter rides, and then….for those lucky few….meeting the parents for a half hour or so over an uncomfortable dinner (stuffed with one-on-one interviews from Mom, Dad, maybe some Jackleg sibling with long hair and a dumbass goatee) and then…..a few days in a remote location that obviously sets a realistic premise for what life might be like….should you decide to pursue marriage with one of these folks….I mean….let’s just say, hypothetically, if your first date is at an ice bar in Whistler…your second date is in Barcelona, Spain, and your third date is on the island of Maui (with the option of foregoing your individual room for the….well, you all know that one by now)…..how in the hell are you going to make it as a normal couple in Vancouver?  It’s easy….you’re not.  Because, despite the fact that Reid soandso (also don’t know his last name or care) seems like exactly what Jillian was looking for (funny, sweet, down to earth, willing to move the Canada…maybe) he was given the boot over a guy that has the personality of a line judge at Wimbledon (yeah…I’m talking about you Kiptyn….just because you got up on that telephone pole with words of encouragement….which I did when I was 12 at Camp Gravatt by the way….and yes, I caught the trapeze too….but that’s for another time….doesn’t mean your 15 minutes of fame become 16…or 17) and a guy that …..ok, this one’s gonna take an actual list:

1) left her for his job in the middle of the show after she gave him a rose just to stay

2) came back (my guess is after his boss told him that he would still be able to keep his job even if he did finish the show….because he was gaining notoriety which really doesn’t hurt business if you know what I mean….that is unless you’re a no-talent-ass-clown that plays country music and runs off at the mouth) and begged her to take him back

3) showed up for a date (on National TV) wearing the fucking worst combination of bad clothes ever seen on a TV set to date…….the damn “I wanna rip my eyes out” blue/gray wife beater, and green and white “I wanna rip my eyes out from the length of the damn things” shorts…..were the worst combination of clothes on a grown man that I’ve ever seen…..honest to God…..at one point I actually had to turn away and I’m fairly certain that if it were filmed in 3D, Ed’s moose knuckle might have actually blinded some people when he decided to relax and cock his bare/but hairy/not quite feminine/but not male looking legs wide open in full view of ABCs cameras.  Thanks ABC for that beautiful shot.  Give that editor a fucking Emmy.  Seriously.

and if you can get past his “I’ve got one last chance to make a “first impression” outfit you get to:

4) meet his parents who, are either utterly shocked at the mere fact that their son is actually dating a woman (because I’m fairly confident that Ed might be gay…..and I feel like they probably share my sentiments)….or are just completely, ridiculously emotional……I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’m a sentimental bastard, but are all the tears really necessary Dad?  You just fucking met her.

Finally…..let’s just say that if you’re Jillian…..you’re able to overlook ALL that (and take into account you’re also juggling 2 spectacular dates with monotone line judge/possible golf commentator and Reid) and are still seriously considering taking Ed to the final 2.  You decide to forego your individual rooms…..you disappear into the bathroom and change into “something a little more comfortable” and you appear bedside with oil and shit ready to rub that mother down………

……and the dude can’t get a boner…………………….

Do you really need to do any more thinking on the subject?  Seriously. 

I mean, she’s had all of about 10 or so hours of actual conversation with this guy and within those 10 hours he’s managed to break her heart, show up as the worst dressed American in television history, and fail during his only attempt in the bedroom…..and yet…….and yet…..

She fucking chooses him over Reid because Reid couldn’t express his feelings.  

Folks.  That’s about all I can take of that shit.  I’m not saying that sex is the deciding factor in a relationship, but if you’ve got one chance to make an impression sexually, and you bring a limp dick to the table……..let’s just say that things aren’t looking “up” if you know what I mean.

and the saddest part of all is that Jillian will exit this show when it’s over, head back to Canada, or California with Kiptyn, or Chicago with Ed, briefly…..realize that Kiptyn is like hanging out with a crossing guard, Ed is like hanging out with a poorly dressed woman, and end up….alone….in Canada….her 15 plus minutes gone……alone. 

Don’t get me wrong…I know there are those of you cussing me under your breath, saying that I shouldn’t be watching this crap anyway.  Sue me.  It’s entertaining.  Maybe more so by the fact that they market it as a show about a woman that’s trying to find love than anything else.  That is just humorous at this point.

So….for all of you Bachelor/ette fans out there….I’m right there with you……through the foot fetish of Tanner, the dog howl singing voice of Wes, and the impotence of Ed…..I’m watching….fascinated….

just don’t expect me to buy into the concept that any of these people are actually looking for love…..especially Jillian…. who’s gone from wanting a companion that will make her laugh to choosing 2 finalists that are utterly laughable.  (unless of course….she decides to give Reid another chance and ultimately picks him….which I’m gonna go out on a limb and call right now by the way)….because, otherwise, I’m done with the franchise….and honestly…..I’m banking on the fact that for once, despite my inclinations, I want to believe a woman that tells us the most important thing that she’s looking for in a man is for him to make her laugh and maybe, just maybe, that’s not just a load of crap….

Today’s Topic:  Screw the Yankees….and Chip Caray…..and Jeff Bennett (I’m ranting again so stop here if you don’t like harsh language…..seriously this time….I warned you)

For those of you that don’t know (not sure how that could be possible if you’ve been on here before but I understand if you haven’t) I’m a huge Atlanta Braves fan.  I’m a huge sports fan in general (not quite as obsessive as some guys that can rattle off the batting average of Mickey Mantle in 1960…but not too far off….by the way….that guy was probably at Turner Field tonight, more on that in a sec).  Baseball is my favorite sport and if you know anything about baseball, you know that former players…be it high school, college, professional, or just plain little league….are some of the most superstitious fans alive.  In fact, I’d be willing to argue that baseball players are by far the most superstitious atheletes in any sport. 

For those that can’t see it coming…..I wrote all that so that you won’t think I’m crazy when you read what’s coming next (THERE IS FOUL LANGUAGE BELOW SO PROCEED WITH CAUTION)

I’D LIKE TO ASK THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE, PLAYERS, ORGANIZATIONS, ETC…..TO KINDLY BLOW IT OUT THEIR ASSES:

The New York Yankees.  The Yankee players, Yankee coaches, and most importantly the Yankee fans.  Especially all of those fans that don’t know shit about baseball other than the Yankees are in New York City and they feel like buying a Derek Jeter jersey and going to some games (YO JETER, HIT IT OVA HEEYAH).  Shut the fuck up.  I watched the bottom of the ninth last night as Mariano Rivera pitched to Yunel Escobar with 2 outs and 2 strikes and if I didn’t know any better, I would’ve thought they were playing in New York City.  There were more fans cheering for the Yankees than there were Braves fans out of the 42,000 plus.  You can’t tell me that all of those fans are transplants from the “greatest city in the world”.  (maybe it’s saying something about the Braves…but we’ll get to that later)….for now…..I wanna say “blow it out your ass dick” to:

Mark Teixeira for saying that Joe Girardi is the best coach he’s ever played for, Mariano Rivera and his now 91 mph cutter (that did strike out all 4 Braves he faced….but again, we’ll get to that later)….and Francisco Cervelli (pictured earlier) for rounding the bases like he just hit his first major league home run…..act like you’ve been there before Jackass….oh wait…..it was his first major league home run…..fuck him…he still acted like a penis….Joe Girardi for his joke of an ejection…..come on man, you’re a freakin’ New Yorka…..show some damn spirit…..Bobby Cox (owner of the all-time ejection mark in Major League Baseball as a manager) shows more spirit while getting tossed and he’s 24 years older.  Damn.

Second….and all apologies to any Skip Caray fans that might be offended (I was a huge Skip Caray fan, just look at my WOW post last year…..somehow I doubt this will offend you)….

Chip……let me give you a piece of advice about commentating, calling a baseball game, etc…(especially when you are a BRAVES announcer…….not an objective announcer, not for some jackleg team like the Yankees….an ATLANTA BRAVES announcer)

If the Braves are in the middle of pitching a PERFECT GAME (and I do mean middle….meaning top of the 5th) …… don’t sit there and comment on the fact that the opposing team (in this case the Jacklegs) haven’t got a hit in 8 plus innings….or that they haven’t had a baserunner yet….or that…..you get the point (by the way, this is the part that I was alluding to with the superstition talk for those of you who were anxiously wondering)

Who’s coming with me?  For those that are…..I want to take it one step further……Here’s a paraphrased transcript of Chip’s comments starting in the top of the 5th and continuing into the top of the 6th (yes, not even a full inning mind you):

THEN A STAT POPS UP THAT CHIP READS SAYING:

- New York Yankees do not have a hit in last 8 innings of this series

after which Chip says:

- you’ve gotta figure at some point the Yankees are gonna break out

and finally…….just in case we hadn’t gotten the point over the last inning (and right before Mr. Cervelli’s life changing home run….and the Yankee’s first hit)

- not only do the Yankees not have a hit, they don’t have a baserunner

Screw you Chip…..and goodnight.

Finally, and I’m sure some of you saw this coming…..

Blow it out your ass Jeff Bennett.  Someone please, please, please explain to me how in the world this guy is still pitching in the Majors….much less for the Braves after blowin’ game, upon game, upon game (out his ass?  damn….maybe I’ll have to think of another way of cussing out Jeff) ……continuing from my previous blog about Bennett….I’ve still yet to see him throw a good inning.  Unbelievable.
