Today’s Topic: The WOW College Football Pre-Season Top 25
Mood Music: Tomorrow by Morrissey
Well guys (and gals)…..it’s about that time of year. Man has the year flown by. I remember putting together my first “Pre-Season Top 25″ last year…..and getting it pretty damn wrong. Well, a year older makes me a year wiser, and….man, it’s still a crapshoot….much more so this year in my opinion….despite the fact that some pundits want to crown the Gators National Champions already. It’s gonna be a tough road for them to repeat and to be honest, I just don’t see it….but let us not forget that my poll is based on “Pre-Season” status…..not schedule strength….which is how it should be. So without further ado…..I give you this year’s WOW College Football Pre-Season Top 25:
25) Wofford Terriers - Game to Watch - Oct. 17th vs. App. State
24) Kansas Jayhawks – Game to Watch - Nov. 14th vs. Nebraska
23) Iowa Hawkeyes – Game to Watch - Sep. 26th at Penn State
22) BYU Cougars - Game to Watch - Sep. 5th at Oklahoma
21) UNC Tarheels - Game to Watch - Sep. 26th at Georgia Tech
20) Nebraska Cornhuskers - Game to Watch – Nov. 7th vs. Oklahoma
19) FSU Seminoles - Game to Watch – Sep. 19th at BYU
18) Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets - Game to Watch - Sep. 10th vs. Clemson
17) Utah Utes - Game to Watch - Nov. 14th at TCU
16) TCU Horned Frogs - Game to Watch - Sep. 26th at Clemson
15) Boise State Broncos - Game to Watch - Sep. 3rd vs. Oregon
14) Alabama Crimson Tide - Game to Watch - Sep. 5th vs. VA Tech
13) Oregon Ducks – Game to Watch - Oct. 31st vs. USC
12) Ole Miss Rebels - Game to Watch - Oct. 10th vs. Alabama
11) Georgia Bulldogs - Game to Watch - Oct. 31st at Florida
10) LSU Tigers - Game to Watch - Nov. 21st at Ole Miss
9) Cal Bears - Game to Watch - Sep. 26th at Oregon
USC Trojans – Game to Watch - Sep. 12th at Ohio State
7) Oklahoma State Cowboys - Game to Watch - Sep. 5th vs. Georgia
6) Penn State Nittany Lions – Game to Watch - Nov. 7th vs. Ohio State
5) Virginia Tech Hokies – Game to Watch - Sep. 19th vs. Nebraska
4) Ohio State Buckeyes – Game to Watch - Sep. 12th vs. USC
3) Oklahoma Sooners - Game to Watch - Nov. 28th vs. Ok. State
2) Texas Longhorns - Game to Watch - Oct. 17th vs. Oklahoma
1) Florida Gat0rs – Game to Watch - Oct. 10th at LSU
There you go. A few notes regarding this poll:

“the man, the myth, the legend…..” he’s closing in on Ed Sprague folks…anyone know who it is?
- I put Wofford in because, well, I wanted to. I gave App. State a chance last year when they started the season going to LSU. They blew it. This year, it’s Wofford’s turn. They go to South Florida and to Wisconsin. Hell, if they win those 2, they deserve to be in my Top 25.
- For those of you that think Ole Miss deserves to be in the Top Ten (or even simply ahead of Alabama, Georgia, or LSU)….think again. You’ve got to earn it in my opinion. That goes for Alabama as well. You all probably think I’m a homer for putting Georgia ahead of Alabama when the AP and Coaches Polls both have them at #5. Well, maybe it is a homer pick, but realistically, if you look at what Georgia returns, and how they finished last year compared to Bama…..I think it’s a justifiable ranking to put UGA ahead of them. Not to mention, in my opinion, if it comes down to 2 teams that are close in my opinion, talent wise, then I’m going with the team that’s earned it. One good season doesn’t make Alabama a Top 5 team and I ain’t just giving them the spot because Nick Saban coaches them….sorry.
- I tried to pick different games for the Games to Watch…..I believe the only game that I chose for both teams was the USC/Ohio State game because I think it’s a monumental game for both teams…..especially USC. If they lose that game….watch out….it might be a down year for the Trojans…..as for Ohio State…and the National spotlight….it’s a must win for them to garner some respect….if they get blown out again, it’s going to be hard to put them in the Championship game even if they win out.
- Finally, I’ll be giving you a few games of the week around Wednesday or Thursday of each week this season…..so here’s a short list of games to keep an eye on as the season kicks off tomorrow:
Thursday, Sept. 3rd –
7:00 - South Carolina at NC State
10:15 - #13 Oregon at #15 Boise State
Saturday, Sept. 5th –
12:00 – App. State at East Carolina
3:30 – #11 Georgia at #7 Oklahoma State
7:00 – #22 BYU at #3 Oklahoma
7:00 – #25 Wofford at South Florida
Sunday, Sept. 6th -
8:00 – #5 Virginia Tech at #14 Alabama (Georgia Dome)
Monday, Sept. 7th -
8:00 – #19 FSU vs. Miami
I’ll talk at you all again later.
“all I ask of you is one thing that you’ll never do….”

The biggest thing I give you props about this poll is not putting Notre Dame in the top 25.
I appreciate the Wofford shout out, we won’t stay in this poll too long.
I am glad to see Ole Miss outside the top 10. I think they are getting way too much credit as a top 10 pick. I think OSU is a little too high, but overall, I don’t have any real big complaints.

I just read that ABC is airing WAKE v. BAYLOR instead of UGA/OSU in VA/NC/northern SC on Saturday…
Unbelievable. I was really looking forward to the ‘boys and their lunatic coach imploding.

I”M BACK!
Good work Will! I can’t tell y’all how ready I am for things to kick off tonight…it’s just been way too long, and finally we haven’t had to sit through a summer of Athens arrest reports. Not sure what Richt and the gang did this summer, but the boys stayed out of the papers for a change and that is a good thing.
I’ll just leave one comment on your Top 25…..you couldn’t be more on point about Ole Piss….I see no reason why they should be getting all the hype that they are.
I look forward to following this thing more closely than I have.
Go Dawgs.

Love the Wofford pick. Thanks for the shout out. It’ll be tough year returning on 3 on offense and 3 on defense. Nice picture of my boy Breitenstein. He’s going to kill it this year. He’s got big shoes to fill. Dame Romero was a beast and didn’t get the respect he deserved last year. Should have at least been a Payton Award candidate.
What is Holtz smoking? No way is Notre Dame going to win the National Championship. That’s crazy!!
I think Bama at 14 is still a stretch. We’ll see what they are made of Saturday night.l
Go T-dogs, ARF ARF ARF!!!

That’s utterly ridiculous about the UGA game not airing.

So does Oregon already fall out of the top 25? They looked pretty flat last night.
Also, will “ole miss cheeleader katie” be a regular correspondent here?

I’ll see what I can do involving Katie’s appearances…..and…Oregon will definitely be dropping….although, I did have those 2 teams ranked pretty close and it’s hard to win in Idaho. We’ll see what happens……I’ll update the rankings on Tuesday.
